Two months. It takes Google two full months to review applications and resumes from wannabe Googlers. That’s not just indicative of the number of applicants, it’s also indicative of the attention they’ll pay to your resume’s specifics.

When you’re submitting your resume to Monster and Indeed for other jobs, you’re likely to have the best chances of getting noticed if your resume contains relevant keywords. Guess what, folks? Google knows those tricks. They invented those tricks.

Your resume will need to have more than just a few well-placed keywords in order to get noticed. Focus on the specific outcomes you’ve achieved at previous positions. If you don’t have experience in the field, you’d better darn sure have some relevant school experience. Include them all on your resume, but be concise.

A clear, succinct resume which outlines what you can do for the company is the best way to get noticed when applying for jobs at Google.

If you’ve applied to Google and don’t hear back within the two month timeframe, you’ll have to wait another year to apply. Another quote from the Google website reads:

For engineering roles, we ask that you wait a year—to gain additional experience—before reapplying.

You can apply for as many jobs as you like within the company, but be sure that your search is narrowed to those which you’re most likely qualified. In other words, if you’re a data infrastructure engineer, don’t apply to be general counsel. You won’t get hired.

You submitted your knockout resume, and you were called by a Google team member to come in (or phone in) for an interview! Congratulations! You’re one of the lucky 0.2% of all applicants. But now what? What do you need to know about the interview process?

We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again. Applying and interviewing at Google isn’t like trying to score a gig at Taco Bell or FedEx. You’re going to need to be spot on during your interview; one “um” could ruin your chances of being hired.

Now, we’re not saying that the people over at Google are monsters. They’re human, too. People make mistakes, but suffice it to say that it’s best not to make mistakes during a Google interview.

During the interview process for jobs at Google, you won’t be hired by just one manager. Instead, you’ll be vetted by a team of Googlers who will, together, decide if you’ll make a good teammate.

Your best bets? Know your stuff. Be enthusiastic. Don’t talk about the perks of working for Google, but instead focus on the problems you can solve for the company. Exude confidence, but not arrogance. And, most importantly, exhibit “Googleyness.”
