ITW Careers (Jobs at Illinois Tool Works, Apply, Learn, See Salary)

ITW careers

Some of the most commonly sought after jobs are those for skilled workers. There are a number of employees who, for one reason or another, are out of work, yet have the skills that manufacturing and other companies desire.

ITW is a national company which specializes in the manufacture of industrial equipment. If you think this kind of work is just what you’re looking for, read more to find out about ITW careers.

ITW Careers

ITW does, as we mentioned, manufacture specialized industrial machinery. But there’s more to the company than that, and as a result there are more jobs than just those in an assembly line or in a plant. Despite the name Illinois Tool Works, there are jobs posted in almost all of the 50 states, including in the New York area. And those job functions range widely.

Engineers are in high demand at the company. If you’re thinking about ITW careers and have experience in chemical engineering, software engineering or even electrical engineering, browse the job listings on the company website. There are sales, administrative and production positions, as well. Search by category or by location to find your best fit.

ITW careers include internships and co-ops in addition to hourly and salaried positions. These internships focus on management, sales, finance and, of course, engineering. But if you’ve got a college major you think would be of benefit to ITW, reach out to the organization. Internships are a great way to start your career at ITW.

What Does ITW Pay

The pay at ITW is equal to or slightly higher than the average national salary for most positions. For instance, the national average salary of a marketing specialist is between $55,000 and $73,000 each year. ITW pays just over $60,000.

Mechanical engineers will earn around $80,000 annually, while project engineers can expect to earn just under $70,000. Even internships are paid at ITW. Tax interns can “collect” up to $23 hourly, and engineering interns will make around $15. While the internships aren’t the highest paid in the country, they are, in fact, paid, and this is a benefit to working for ITW.

Speaking of benefits, ITW has those as well. The benefits package you’ll receive in ITW careers is pretty standard. You’ll have access to medical, dental and vision discounts, as well as a retirement savings plan and a wellness program. The company offers life insurance up to eight times the current salary. You’ll also get paid holidays and time off.

One thing is important to note if you’re a skilled worker: ITW doesn’t have a reputation for liking unions. On several occasions, ITW has shut down factories and plants in what was assumed to be an effort to rid themselves of union representation. If you’re represented by a union, contact your union leader to discover more appropriate jobs for you.

ITW Application

Most of the application process for Illinois Tool Works is completed online. The ITW website has a complete job search feature, by which you’ll be able to search openings by state or by field. Each job post will include a full description of the responsibilities of the employee, but not all job posts will include a rate of pay.

Once you’ve applied, you can expect to wait a week or two to hear from ITW. Depending upon the position you’ve applied for, you may also have to complete more than one interview. Generally, sales representatives and similar positions will require more than one, while skilled laborers will only attend one interview.

The credentials you’ll need to be hired at ITW will vary by the job. For some, you’ll need a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a related field. For others such as an order puller, a high school diploma will do. If you’ve got trade school experience, check out ITW careers for skilled workers.

There are some jobs which state that you’ll need a college degree, but if you’ve got experience you might be just fine. Inside sales representatives, for example, must have a Bachelor’s degree and at least 3 years of experience in a related field. With more experience, you may be able to land a job despite having no degree.

Of course, you can always begin with an internship at ITW. These programs are available for both college students and for recent graduates of universities. You’ll have to contact ITW to apply for these jobs, though, as an application is not available on the website.

Is ITW Hiring?

ITW, at the time of this posting, had job openings in the United States, Canada, Belgium and Germany. The company employs over 48,000 people, and is a Fortune 500 company. It’s unlikely that the company will be disappearing any time soon, and it continues to expand.

There are companies which are comparable to ITW, though, and they may be worth a look if you’re interested in the industry. You’ll find similar positions at Caterpillar, which is a global company with almost 100,000 employees. Caterpillar is headquartered in Deerfield, Illinois, nearby to ITW.

3M is another peer to ITW. 3M is based in Minnesota but has job openings across the United States and in many other countries. You likely know 3M best for their adhesive manufacture, but they also manufacture medical equipment, car care products and electronics equipment.

Finally, Ingersoll-Rand is a manufacturer of industrial and security technologies. It’s based in Davidson, North Carolina but employs 52,000 people globally. There are many jobs available in the North Central area, including Trenton, New Jersey.

Jobs at ITW are a good bet for anyone in a skilled trade field. The jobs at ITW pay comparably to similar jobs in the United States, and there are positions to fit a wide range of skill sets. Despite being based in Illinois, there are jobs at ITW across the country.

However, if you’re expecting a unionized, full benefits position, ITW may not be for you. ITW has historically steered clear of union representatives and workers. You’ll receive benefits through ITW, but not the same as if you worked as a union employee.
